Day Curlers achieve a rare Eight Ender
Editor: Paul Mallany
The team of Bill Hunter (skip), Bev Languay(vice), Hal Belcher(Second) and Louis Howe( Lead) scored the maximum eight points during a bonspiel at the Midland Curling Club on March 28, 2019.
They were competing at the Day Curling Closing Bonspiel and their team was formed from a random draw.
This memorable event was not without drama. There were seven red rocks in the house and the opposing skip chose to try for the win by drawing his last rock in behind cover. Unfortunately for him he was heavy and the rock went through the hose leaving an open draw for the eight point of the end.
An eight ender is extremely rare and many clubs have a special trophy to mark the occasion.
