ACCESSIBILITY POLICY AND PLAN

Midland Curling Club is committed to providing a safe facility for curlers, guests and customers including individuals of all ages and those with disabilities. In so doing we provide all individuals with a safe facility, a variety of services and selection of programs to meet their needs.

We also provide an opportunity for peoples of all ages and abilities to stay physically active and to foste the principles of independence, integration and equal opportunity..

LEARN-TO-CURL

Our Learn-to-curl program is designed to help new curlers learn the basics of the sport of curling so that each individual will be safe and comfortable on the ice. This is a six to eight week program held weekly at the beginning of the season for new members. New members are asked to sign up for the learn-to-curl program (if they wish to do so) at the time of registration.

SPECIAL OLYMPICS PROGRAM

Midland Curling Club runs a Sunday afternoon league for people with disabilities. Our Special Olympians have travelled across the country and have won numerous competitions. In the event of a disruption of services or facilities, the program convener will notify all of the participants or their guardians and ensure that they know the length of the disruption, the reason for it and when normal activities will resume. 

YOUTH CURLING PROGRAM

Midland Curling Club welcomes the young people in our community. We run a weekly youth program and we welcome the young people as well as their parents or guardians into the facility. Parents will be notified if there is a disruption in the program or facility.

COMMUNICATIONS

We offer communication with our members and with the public in a variety of forms. The general public can find out about our services, facility rentals and our leagues by logging on to our website www.midlandcurlingclub.com The website also has our club calendar which lists all leagues and events. It is accessible to the public and the members. We communicate with our members throughout the curling season with our newsletter Rocks and Rings. This newsletter is also printed for those members who do not have access to a computer or wish to read it at the club. For those underage or disabled members,communication is sent to their guardians or support persons.

SERVICE ANIMALS

Service animals that are accompanying disabled persons are allowed in our curling club. The individual or support person is responsible for the needs and behavior of the service animal.

SUPPORT PERSONS (INCLUDING PARENTS AND GUARDIANS)

Parents, guardians and support persons for the disabled are all welcome at the Midland Curling Club. It is expected that all support persons will provide the necessary assistance to those individuals in their care. No fees will be charged for support persons.

TRAINING

Employees and volunteers at the Midland Curling Club will be informed of our Accessibility Policy and will be instructed in how to interact and communicate with people of ages and abilities. Where necessary they will be instructed on how interact with people who require an assistive device or the assistance of a service animal or support person. All employees and volunteers will be asked to adhere to the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 and the Customer Service Standard.

ACCESSIBILITY PLANS

The Board of Directors is working on modifications to our facility to make it more accessible for the disabled. Plans are underway to improve our entranceway and to upgrade our washroom for wheelchair accessibility.
